A new health and wellbeing community Hub for the residents of Clay Cross and the surrounding area.
Introducing Clay Cross Active, an unrivalled state-of-the-art fully accessible and family friendly leisure centre incorporating a community hub at the heart of Clay Cross for the residents in the town and surrounding areas. A place for the whole community to take part in physical activity and relax in the café area. Health and support services being on-site make this a real hub for everybody.
£7 million of Town Deal funding contributes towards the £24 million investment of Clay Cross Active, including £2.14m funded by Sport England, to create the cutting edge centre our communities have been asking for. Visitors will be able to enjoy top-of-the-line equipment for their wide range of physical activities - the gym alone will feature over 100 pieces of equipment. The new facilities will be much greener with the new build being low carbon and low energy, leading the leisure industry in being environmentally friendly.
Construction started in spring 2023 and the facility is set to open on 18 June. The centre is a world class facility, with a huge array of activities fo all to enjoy from children and the soft play centre and tag actie to adults in the gym, immersive fitness studio and more! A 3G pitch is also on the way for Clay Cross Active! North East Derbyshire District Council successfully secured funding from the Premier League, The FA and Government’s Football Foundation to install a new 3G pitch at the Clay Cross Active facility. The 3G pitch project has been made possible thanks to a £786,000 grant from the Football Foundation, with the remaining 25% of the project costs provided by the council and local partners. Works are set to start early in 2025 and the pitch is expected to be available for hire in the summer of 2025, once the facility is open.
