We are moving forward swiftly with the improvements to highways and footpaths to ensure minimal disruption for our residents and local businesses of Clay Cross.
Work to re-open Bridge Street is progressing well and the temporary traffic signals will be removed within the coming weeks.
What to Expect
- Bridge Street and Bus Station Temporary Closure: There will be a full road closure on Bridge Street, between the junctions of Eyre Street and Eldon Street, for a period of 3 weeks in July. This is to enable the completion of the works to re-open Bridge Street and means that the bus station will also close for the same period of time. The work aligns with the upcoming pedestrianisation of Market Street and will enable Bridge Street to operate as a two-way road, allowing buses to exit the station and join the A61 via Harris Way. Further information will be published soon.
- Duration of Works: We aim to complete the works within three weeks, after which Bridge Street and the bus station will reopen.
- Temporary Bus Stops: During the closure, temporary bus stops will be available outside Meadowfresh, and the Derbyshire County Council Countryside Service building (former Constabulary building) on Market Street
We appreciate your patience during these improvements and can’t wait to unveil the new town square along with Clay Cross Active and other improvements in our town.
